State House Update

On March 8, 2022, Governor Murphy delivered his Fiscal Year 2023 Budget Address before a joint session of the Senate and Assembly. The Governor is proposing a $48.9 billion state budget, a new record-high with $2.5 billion in increased spending. The proposed budget is now in the hands of the legislature charged with coming up with a balanced budget by June 30.

The following Assembly Committees were scheduled to meet on Monday, March 14:
Financial Institutions and Insurance; Higher Education; and Telecommunications & Utilities.

Senate Schedule:

The following Senate Committees were scheduled to meet on Monday, March 14:
Education; and Higher Education.

Activity on Bills of Interest: 

A-583: New Jersey Works Act”; Permits businesses to create pre-employment training programs in partnership with nonprofit organizations or educational institutions; provides tax credit to businesses that provide financial assistance to pre-employment training programs. n: March 10, favorably reported by Assembly Labor Committee. Next action: Assembly vote, to be announced (TBA).
