America Saves Press Release
November 9, 2023 | americasaves.org
The holiday season is upon us, which means additional expenses and increased spending for most Americans. With the current state of our economy and constantly rising costs, most of us are looking for ways to make it through the upcoming season without any added stress or creating additional financial burdens that will follow us into the new year.
The best way to ensure you make it through the holiday season with your finances still intact afterward is to start off knowing where you stand and with a plan!
Unfortunately, many Americans don’t have an accurate idea of the true state of their own finances, and around one-third are surprised to find that it’s different than they thought.
The first step to being in control is to do a financial check-in and self-assessment, and the perfect time to do that is on a “money date”!
What is a money date?
It’s an opportunity to talk openly and honestly about your day-to-day finances and your short and long-term financial goals. This can be a solo date with yourself, your significant other, or your entire family.
While on your date, use our Spending and Savings Plan Tool and check out our list of 6 Steps you can take to get started. They’re simple and easy things you can do to understand your household’s finances and make a plan before starting that holiday shopping list.
You can also tune into our Podcast, Think Like A Saver to listen to our team discuss how you can get a clear view of your finances.
As we said earlier, the holidays can put a strain on your budget – turkeys, hams, decorations, gifts, parties….the list goes on. Saving during the holidays doesn’t just mean saving on these various elements, it also means sticking to your previously set saving goals and avoiding new debt.
With that in mind, we’ve compiled some tips to help you plan for a fun & fulfilling holiday season.
